SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Tips

What is Google recommending about BEST SEO Practices

“A more descriptive title tag (optimized keyword) and URL naming structure can help the search engine understand the content of the page better. It is suggested to use a maximum of 60 characters on title tags as an opportunity to tell both users and search engines what the focus of the page is. There’s no need to go past this many characters, as most search engines will display ellipses ( … ) after this limit. Also, search engines may give less weight to words after a certain point.”

5 Web Trends you should consider for your web site in 2011

2011 will bring several changes to the appearance of web pages. More customers will buy a smart phone or a tablet before the buy a new computer.  Here are some questions you may want to ask yourself about your web site:

1.Usability – Is your web site viewable at a smart phone and/or a tablet?  Flash only pages will suffer, because they cannot be viewed on several smart phones and/or on tablets. Considering that more and more people will use their smart phones to access the internet, you may need to redesign your web site.

2. Thumbnail Design – Visitors are used to thumbnail browsing.  Thumbnails give you a preview of what to expect. Other programs like Google, Facebook and Flickr were implementing thumbnail browsing. More people will navigate pages using thumbnails and icons.

3. Power of Simplicity – Simpler color schemes and “magazine” layout will be the trend in 2011. The influence of users viewing a web site on a smart phone is dominant. Simpler layouts  and simpler color schemes make it easy to browse through a web site and quickly find what you are looking for.

4. Large Photographic  Backgrounds – This will be the new way to grab the attention of your audience. It needs to be in harmony with the content of your page and don’t overpower your content. Often these backgrounds will be used in a lower transparency, so that copy still can be read easily.

Design for Touch screens – Not only mobile phones uses touch screens anymore. Drop down menus and other “hovering” effects are not accessible from a touch screen. Liquid layouts, which will adjust to a users screen resolution size and horizontal or vertical viewing, become more and more important. Your design must be flexible to keep up with the requirements in 2011.
